Mission/Background:
The Massachusetts Environmental Trust is a grant making entity supported by the sales of environment themed license plates - the Right Whale, the Brook Trout, and the Blackstone Valley Mill. Over 40,000 drivers display these plates and contribute nearly $1,000,000 to environmental projects each year. Since 1988, the Trust has awarded over $17 million through nearly 650 grants to organizations which have in turn made a remarkable impact on protecting and enhancing the state's water resources. Grants have been used to: find sources of pollution, restore marine and freshwater habitat, protect endangered species, monitor water quality throughout the state, educate students on environmental issues, and much more.
